The UAB Publications Service has published the new volume La literatura religiosa del antiguo Egipto (2800 a. n. e. – 1000 d. n. e.), by Antonio J. Morales Rondán, lecturer in the Department of History and Philosophy at the University of Alcalá. The volume was presented on 9 September at the Hotel Exe Campus of the Vila Universitària, as part of the 8th Ibero-American Congress of Egyptology, organised by the Institute of Ancient Near Eastern Studies (IEPOA) at the UAB.
The work invites readers to explore the relationships between the sacred, the magical, and the human, through fourteen studies spanning a period of nearly four thousand years, from the Pyramid Texts to the Coptic era. The volume brings together funerary compositions, hymns, cosmographies, and medico-ritual treatises that offer insight into the complex systems of thought of ancient Egypt, deeply rooted in the relationship between human beings, the deities, and the cosmos.
Beyond the contemporary interest in the more enigmatic aspects of Egyptian civilisation, the book offers a rigorous approach to the texts that shaped its religious and cultural tradition. At the same time, it invites the modern reader to reflect on ritual mechanisms, the negotiation with the invisible, and the power of the written word.
With this new release, the UAB Publications Service continues to expand a catalogue that includes other reference works in the field of Egyptology, such as Escrituras, lengua y cultura en el antiguo Egipto and volumes 5 through 9 of the Aula Aegyptiaca Studia series.
