Opening of the Academic Year 2026–2027: a special edition for the UvA

On Monday, 31 August, the University of Amsterdam will open the 2026–2027 academic year. The opening has a special character this year: it will mark Vinod Subramaniam's first public appearance as president of the UvA Executive Board, rector magnificus Peter-Paul Verbeek bids farewell and hands over the rectorship to his successor, Anniek de Ruijter.

During his first public appearance as UvA Executive Board president, Vinod Subramaniam will speak about the university's direction for the coming years. The new UvA strategy will take centre stage in that discussion, showing how students and staff, together with partners in the city and society, will work towards a strong, open and future-oriented university in the coming years.
