アニコム先進医療研究所株式会社（代表取締役社長 堀江 亮）は、環境省 対馬野生生物保護センター、京都大学 野生動物研究センター（センター長 平田 聡）、京都市動物園（園長 和田 晴太郎）、NPO法人どうぶつたちの病院（理事長 越田 雄史）、麻布大学（学長 村上 賢）との共同研究により、対馬で確認された「尾の短いツシマヤマネコ」について全ゲノム解析を実施しました。その結果、核ゲノム解析では、この個体にイエネコとの近年の交雑を示す証拠は認められず、ミトコンドリアDNAについても、他のツシマヤマネコと同一の型を示しました。また、比較対象とした他のツシマヤマネコ15頭についても、イエネコとの近年の交雑を支持する結果は得られませんでした。ネコ科ベンガルヤマネコ属（PrionailurusAs far as we know, this is the first time that short-tailed individuals have been reported in ).

The results of this research demonstrate that it is difficult to determine the presence or absence of interbreeding based on external characteristics alone, and that verification based on genomic information is useful.
