overview

A research group led by Assistant Professor Yuki Sakai (part-time researcher at the Kanagawa Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, currently a researcher at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology), Assistant Professor Takumi Nishikubo (full-time researcher at the Kanagawa Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology), and Professor Masaki Higashi of the Science Tokyo Research Institute is working on the perovskite-type oxide bismuth cobalt oxide (BiCoO).3)を母物質とした非鉛の巨大負熱膨張物質を開発しました。

Negative thermal expansion materials are expected to be a material that can solve problems such as misalignment due to thermal expansion and peeling at the bonding interface of dissimilar materials, which occur in semiconductor manufacturing equipment and optical equipment that require extremely high precision. The research group previously developed a negative thermal expansion material that exhibits the largest volumetric contraction (press releaseLargest negative thermal expansion material with maximum performance), this material had the problem of containing harmful lead.

本研究では、母物質のBiCoO3We developed a lead-free negative thermal expansion material in which the bismuth of 2000 was replaced with a lanthanide element, and achieved a volumetric shrinkage of 6.1%, the largest among lead-free negative thermal expansion materials, through a reconfiguration-type phase transition that involves the breaking and recombination of chemical bonds. Large volume changes of more than 20% have been reported due to rearranged phase transitions, so it is expected that in the future we will develop super-large negative thermal expansion materials that utilize a similar phase transition mechanism.

This research included Kazuki Takahashi, a graduate student in the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tokyo University of Science (at the time of the research), Shogo Wakasaki, a graduate student (at the time of the research), graduate student Jun Miyake (at the time of the research), Tsuyoshi Koike graduate student (at the time of the research), Teppei Nagase graduate student (at the time of the research), graduate student Hano Hatayama, special professor Takafumi Yamamoto (currently a professor at the Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University), and Principal Researcher Jinichiro Mizumaki of the Bright Photon Science Research Center (currently). Kumamoto University Graduate School of Advanced Science Research (Faculty of Science) Professor) participated.

The results of this research were published in "Advanced Science" on September 3 (local time).
