Stars are born in dense gas fiber structures inside molecular clouds. The processes of fiber fragmentation, collapse and material accretion are core research topics in the field of contemporary astrophysics. For a long time, there have been two mainstream theories in the academic community regarding the formation mechanism of fiber structures: supersonic turbulence-dominated and gravity-dominated. Due to the lack of systematic dynamic statistical research on subparsec (less than 1 parsec), the two major theoretical models have always been difficult to fully test.

Previously, the large-scale "warp structure" of the Milky Way has been widely confirmed and a basic model has been established. However, compared with the overall structure, finer-scale vertical undulation structures such as folds in the galaxy disk have long lacked systematic observation and quantitative research. Carbon monoxide (CO) molecular gas is an important probe for tracking the cold and dense medium of the Milky Way. However, limited by survey sensitivity and spatial coverage, there are still obvious uncertainties in the three-dimensional structure of the Milky Way's outer disk. Previous observations of related molecular gas fold structures were limited to the solar neighborhood, and it is unknown whether they exist in the outer disk of the Milky Way.
