The BMO – L.-Jacques-Ménard Chair in Thoracic Surgery, Organ Perfusion for Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine, the best endowed in the history of the University of Montreal, will help accelerate the development of innovative approaches to improve the quality of organs available for transplantation and patient outcomes.
Made possible thanks to a $10M donation from the Foundation for Research in Thoracic Surgery of Montreal, with the support of BMO Financial Group, the Ménard family and major donors, the new chair will consolidate at UdeM an international caliber center of expertise in organ perfusion, transplantation and regenerative medicine.
“Each time we create a research chair, we open up a space for discovery. We offer our best talents the time and resources necessary to push the boundaries of knowledge and innovate. When we touch on the field of health, research takes on another dimension. We think about the lives we are going to save. We are talking about families to whom we give back a father, a mother, a child. We give birth to concrete hope where illness once reigned. The potential of this new chair is enormous,” explained the rector of UdeM, Daniel Jutras.
For the dean of the Faculty of Medicine, DrPatrick Cossette, “this chair shows what is possible to accomplish when philanthropy, research and care move in the same direction. It will give our teams the means to accelerate innovation, train the next generation and, ultimately, improve the lives of patients.”
